“A Mesa woman was arrested last week on suspicion of assaulting and yelling profanities at a 9- and 11-year-old who were playing in a common area of an apartment complex, according to a court document.
Nadine Nelson, 54, was arrested on suspicion of aggravated assault, according to police. Police said Nelson, while walking her dog at an apartment complex, became angry with a group of children who were playing in a common area. Several witnesses said she went up to a 9-year-old girl and poked her shoulder hard enough that the child said it hurt, according to police. The witnesses also said she shoved an 11-year-old child in the chest and yelled profanities at the group, according to a court document.
Police said the children were not injured. The father of the 9-year-old girl decided to prosecute Nelson, police said, while the 11-year-old’s parent decided not to, according to police. Police said Nelson appeared to be intoxicated and that she told them that she was upset with the children for riding their scooters on the sidewalk, according to a court document. Nelson said she “moved them” off the sidewalk and then said she never touched the children and “just told them to move,” according to police.”
