Imagine hearing noises outside in the driveway of your home, looking out the window, and seeing someone trying to break into your car. That’s the situation a 34-year old San Tan Valley woman found herself in recently. Fearing that her property would be stolen, the woman retrieved a shotgun from inside her home and fired 2 shots at the alleged burglar.
The only problem was, the supposed intruder turned out to be her husband. The woman called 911 to report that she had just shot her husband because she thought he was an intruder trying to break into the vehicle.
The victim was shot twice – once in the chest and once in the right hand. Deputies immediately began to render medical aid to the victim as soon as they arrived until paramedics arrived. Although the husband was able to survive the shooting, he is unable to speak. Detectives in the case are looking forward to speaking with him to understand more details surrounding the case.
At the time of the shooting, the woman’s 3 children, ages 12, 10 and 2 were inside the home. When they arrived on the scene, the Sheriff’s deputies could hear the wife screaming “Help me!” over and over again and found her kneeling over her husband, who was laying face down in the driveway.
The woman was taken into custody and charged with aggravated assault in a domestic violence case. Domestic violence refers to any crime that occurs between, or involves people in a relationship such as a husband and wife, boyfriend and girlfriend, brother and sister, parent and child or anything similar.
