Your AZ driver’s license will be suspended for your first DUI conviction. Additionally, your license will be revoked for subsequent DUI convictions.
Once you satisfy your court requirements, complete an alcohol education program and community service, you must install an ignition interlock device on your vehicle before you can reinstate your driver’s license once the suspension period ends. On the other hand, to reinstate your revoked driver’s license, you need to complete and submit a “Revocation Investigation Packet.”
Getting a Restricted Driver’s License
Naegle & Crider Criminal Defense Attorneys understand that it is difficult to commute to work, attend classes, or conduct day-to-day activities without having any driving privileges. Fortunately, you may be eligible to obtain a restricted driver’s license to allow you to drive to and from work, during work for business purposes, to and from school, and to and from an alcohol treatment center.
If your driver’s license is suspended or revoked due to a DUI-related conviction, you may be eligible for a special restricted driver’s license that is valid during the period of suspension or revocation. In order to obtain a restricted license, you need to contact AZ MVD to verify your eligibility.
To be eligible for a special restricted license, you must do the following:
- Complete at least 90 days of your suspension.
- Have no pending withdrawal actions.
- Install an ignition interlock device (IID) and submitted the “Verification of Installation” form to the AZ MVD.
- Complete alcohol education and treatment programs.
- Submit SR-22 to the AZ MVD.
- Pay your fees.
In Arizona, you need to pay both a reinstatement fee and an application fee, as well as additional court fees and costs if applicable. A suspended driver’s license fee costs $10, while a revoked driver’s license fee is $20.
The following are application fees according to age:
- 16 to 39 years of age – $25
- 40 to 44 years of age – $20
- 45 to 49 years of age – $15
- 50 years of age or older – $10
